Huawei denies plans to produce a dual-OS phone
Nearly a week ago, we told you that Chinese manufacturer Huawei was planning on launching a dual-OS handset in the U.S. The device, loaded with both the Android and Windows Phone platforms, was seemingly confirmed by Huawei's CMO of devices, Shao Yang. The rumor called for the device to launch during the second quarter.
Now, it would appear that the earlier rumor might have been the result of bad timing. Huawei said on Wednesday that it has no plans at all to release a dual-OS phone. In a statement, Huawei even admitted that Android is its focus for the time being. This is a bit of a mystery considering how CMO Yang explained that many people might not buy a Windows Phone model, but would consider a phone that was powered by both Windows Phone and Android.
"Microsoft is still a key global partner of Huawei Consumer Business Group .As long as the consumers continue to demand Windows, we will continue to supply them."-Huawei
The comments made by Yang took place late last month at MWC in Barcelona and Huawei says it has changed its plans since then. The manufacturer still plans on offering new Windows Phone models later this year. Coincidentally, Asus recently scratched plans to sell a device powered by both Android and Windows Phone 8.1 after objections to the product were made by both Google and Microsoft.

Not Guilty: HTC, ZTE and Huawei did not infringe on camera patent says ITC
Patent infringement cases heard in front of the ITC are often times very worrisome for the defendants. That is because the agency has the power to issue exclusion orders, with the president's signature of course, that could ban sales of an infringing product in the U.S. On Friday, a trio of smartphone manufacturers were able to exhale following a ruling from the ITC that HTC, ZTE and Huawei did not infringe on a camera patent owned by FlashPoint Technology. The latter is a spin-off from Apple.
Last September, an administrative law judge made a preliminary finding that the HTC Vivid and the HTC DROID Incredible 4G LTE both infringed on one patent belonging to FlashPoint, while ZTE and Huawei were cleared. The ITC reviewed the prior ruling, and in a final decision the commission found that none of the companies had infringed on any FlashPoint patent.
Back in December 2011, HTC was also cleared by the ITC in another case involving alleged patent infringement of camera related patents. In that particular case, HTC's fellow defendants included RIM, LG and Nokia.

Rumors: Huawei readies a Quad HD smartphone, Ascend D3 might be launched in June

Huawei tweaks Ascend P6 chipset, tacks on an 'S' for good measure
We had some issues with Huawei's Ascend P6 when we reviewed it last year -- despite a sleek thin design, a gorgeous display and a solid camera, it simply lacked oomph. Now the company has given the handset a slight revision, bumping its original 1.5GHz quad-core processor up to 1.6GHz. Unfortunately, the phone's new silicon still doesn't support LTE, and not much else has changed: the phone still has 2GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch display and a 2,000mAh battery. All in all, it doesn't sound too different from the original model, but it Huawei did tweak its moniker; it's now the Ascend P6 S. Well, that's something. Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G goes official

After several leaks the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G is now official. The phablet keeps the 6.1" 720p screen, but updates the chipset with more processing power and faster connectivity.
The Ascend Mate 2 4G features a Snapdragon chipset with four CPU cores clocked at 1.6GHz (we're hearing Cortex-A7) and 2GB RAM. The phablet will run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with the custom Emotion UI 2.0 from Huawei.
The camera was upgraded to a 13MP shooter (f/2.0, 28mm lens, Sony sensor) with 1080p video recording. There's an impressive 5MP, f/2.4 front-facing camera with 1.4�m pixels (that's UltraPixel size). The storage has been doubled to 16GB (with a microSD card for more).
Speaking of upgrades, the connectivity goes from the 3G of the original to Cat. 4 LTE, which does up to 150Mbps downlink. The beefy 4,050mAh battery is still here and this time it even has the option to charge other phones.
Huawei has actually managed to slim down the Ascend Mate 2 4G, which is now 9.5mm thick (down from 9.9mm) and bezels are a bit thinner, the device now measures. It weighs virtually the same too (202g, up from 198g).

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 snapped with its predecessor, said to keep 720p panel
While there's been no reason to doubt whispers of a follow-up to Huawei's Ascend Mate, pictures of the super-sized device have so far been unflattering. Today, however, a Mate 2-toting source has sent some snaps to our friends at Engadget Chinese, including a few family photos with the original Mate. Barring a few aesthetic changes and a slightly thinner profile, the Mate 2 bears a similar square form factor to its older brother. Aside from learning of its 13-megapixel main camera, the source reiterates specs we've heard already: a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 16GB of internal storage, 2 gigs of RAM and Android 4.2.2 with a coating of Emotion UI. It is claimed, however, that the next-gen Mate's display has not been upgraded as previously thought, so we're in for the same 6.1-inch 720p panel as before. According to a leaked internal document sent to us by an anonymous tipster, Huawei is working on an Ascend P7 smartphone that's currently going under the codename "Sophia".
The Huawei Ascend P7 is going to be a major update over the Ascend P6 and will feature a 1080p 5.0" TFT LCD display. Under the hood of the phone, Huawei is betting on the HiSilicon Balong 910 chipset with a quad-core 1.6GHz CPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Happily, it's expandable thanks to the microSD card slot.
As you can see the document states that the phone will be made of "exquisite materials" and as our tipster points out, the phone looks very similar to its predecessor. We won't be surprised if Huawei bets on metal for the chassis once again. Another unique selling point of the Ascend P7 would be the ability to take the "best selfie videos" as Huawei puts it.
The company aims to achieve this thanks to the front-facing 8MP camera. At the back, there's going to be a 13MP auto-focus snapper with LED flash. The smartphone will be powered by a 2460mAh battery. The Huawei Ascend P7 will be LTE-enabled with support for Cat 4 at the 800/1800/2100/2600 bands.
The phone runs an unspecified version of Android garnished with the company's own EmotionUI 2.0, which isn't that surprising.
If the document is to be trusted, Huawei plans to release the Ascend in April next year. Pricing is yet to be detailed.
