Samsung Galaxy S5 price drops to Rs 40,000 on various online stores

After being launched at an exorbitant price of Rs 51,500, the Samsung Galaxy S5 price has been dropping significantly. As we reported, the first price drop for Galaxy S5 came in late last month when it dropped to Rs 46,000 on Flipkart. After the news spread, Samsung came out and clarified that they did not drop the price officially. But today, prices of the Samsung Galaxy S5 have been dropped around Rs 40,000 on multiple online stores including Flipkart, Amazon and IndiaTimes Shopping.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Price In India
Samsung Galaxy S5 Price In India
At this price, buying the Galaxy S5 seems worth the money. Its rivals, Apple iPhone 5S, HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2 are priced at Rs 46,560, Rs 44,995 and Rs 44,999 respectively. All these rival smartphones are priced over Rs 5,000 higher than the Galaxy S5. This has been the case with Samsung’s flagship smartphone offerings every year. Samsung manages to launch its smartphones earlier than other brands and then keeps on dropping the prices faster than its rivals to attract more buyers. Would you buy the Galaxy S5 at this price? Or would you still shell out some extra money for better alternatives?

T-Mobile to offer the Samsung Galaxy S5 for no money down, pre-orders begin March 24th

Looks like the embargo is officially up on Samsung Galaxy S5 pricing. After AT&T revealed earlier today that it'll sell the new flagship phone for $200 on-contract, T-Mobile chimed in to say it will offer the device for no money down, with pre-orders beginning next week, on March 24th. Of course, anyone who knows anything about T-Mobile's UnCarrier pricing plans knows that doesn't mean "free" -- it means you're committing to 24 subsequent monthly payments. So, if you're already sweet on the GS5's Band-Aid-like stylings, and know you prefer T-Mo, you'll want to sign up first thing on Monday.

New Samsung Galaxy Beam spotted at Tenaa

15 March, 2014 | Comments (31) | Post your comment

Tags: Samsung, Android

Samsungs Beam phones with built-in pico projectors never really caught on, but the company has another one in the works. The Samsung SM-G3858 builds on its predecessor while staying in the mid-range.

The phone was certified by Tenaa, which is where the info comes from. The next Beam features a 4.66 LCD with only WVGA resolution and is powered by a quad-core processor at 1.2GHz with 1GB RAM. It runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Samsung G3858, the new Galaxy Beam

Unfortunately, theres no info on the projector itself but the bump is visible at the top of the device. You can also see the projector button above the Power key. Previous Beams used nHD projectors (640 x 360).

Additional specs include a 5MP / 1080p camera, 3G connectivity (including TD-SCDMA) and a microSD card slot. The new Galaxy Beam measures 134.5 x 70 x 11.7mm and weighs 165.5g.

The device bears the China Mobile logo on its back, but that doesnt preclude the possibility of an international version.

Quad-core Samsung Galaxy S3 Slim quietly launched

15 March, 2014 | Comments (67) | Post your comment

Tags: Samsung, Android

Samsung has very quietly launched a new smartphone: the Samsung Galaxy S3 Slim in the Brazilian market.

The name is a bit misleading, considering that the specs of the S3 Slim are some way below the original Galaxy S3.

The phone is rocking Android 4.2 out of the box and a 4.5 display of qHD (960 x 540) resolution. It also only comes with 8GB storage with 1GB RAM, and a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. On the photography side, it's sporting a 5MP primary shooter, with a VGA front-facing unit. The handset is available in both black and white color variants.

Given the specifications of the device, don't expect it to break the bank, but pricing is yet to be confirmed. So far the smartphone has only appeared on the Brazilian Samsung website, but it won't be surprising if it makes it to other developing markets, too.

Thanks, Matheus Andrade Rodrigues, for the tip!

Samsung ATIV SE press image leaks out on Twitter

15 March, 2014 | Comments (33) | Post your comment

Tags: Samsung, Windows Phone, Rumors

An alleged press photo of Samsung ATIV SE made the rounds on Twitter, courtesy of @evleaks. Previously known as Samsung Huron, the Windows Phone handset is bound for Verizon Wireless in the United States.

As you can see in the image above, the Samsung ATIV SE looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S4. There is no word on the specs of the upcoming smartphone just yet, though past rumors suggest that the ATIV SE will pack 1080p display (likely the same 5 unit as the one found in the Samsung Galaxy S4) and 13MP main camera.

There are no details on pricing and availability of the Samsung ATIV SE just yet. We doubt it will be a long wait before the smartphone joins the Nokia Lumia Icon in Verizons Windows Phone ranks.

Brain of Samsung Galaxy S4 sets world record to solve Rubik’s Cube

This basically proves that anything can be achieved with some Legos and a smartphone. In Birmingham, United Kingdom, at the Big Bang Fair, a robot, Cubestormer 3, shattered the world record for solving the iconic 3D puzzle that is Rubik’s Cube.

To put things in perspective, the human-powered record was set last year by Mats Valk of the Netherlands. He could only solve it in 5.55-seconds. That was not fast enough for what was then holding the absolute record that was Cubestormer 2 (powered by a Samsung Galaxy S2) which managed to solve the puzzle in 5.27-seconds.

Cubestormer 3 is a whole new generation of geekdom and robot.  Legos with robot actuators are connected to a Samsung Galaxy S4 (Exynos octa-core powered) which is tasked with analyzing the cube’s starting arrangement.  Then, the Samsung directs the Mindstorm actuators to spin the cube in the manner needed to solve the puzzle.

How fast did Cubestormer 3 handle the mission? Try 3.253-seconds. As you can see in the video below the device is hammering the Rubik’s Cube with movements that are basically faster than the human eye can see. Then again, when you look at at Mats Valk’s video solving the puzzle, his action is pretty fast too. What is your record for solving the puzzle (no, taking it apart and reassembling does not count)?

Full press render for Samsung ATIV SE, Windows Phone for Verizon, leaks

evleaks, we get to see the full rendering of the device.

First of all, it looks like a repurposed Galaxy S4, with small changes to the back plate near the bottom of the device. Volume rocker and power/lock buttons are in familiar places for Samsung users. We would not be surprised if that was a 13MP camera.

Specification-wise, we do not know anything official, but this form factor virtually guarantees the aforementioned camera, a 5-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, and we fairly certain that there is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU to round up the package.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition launched in the UK, it's really expensive

Last month, Samsung confirmed that its Galaxy S4 Black Edition would be released in select markets, but it didn’t specifically mention which ones. Well, one of those markets is the UK. The problem is that the S4 Black Edition is available in the UK exclusively at Phones4U, which asks quite a lot of money for an unlocked unit: $830 (

Verizon now sells the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014, offers Google's Nexus 7 2013 for $49.99 on contract

Verizon today launched the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition - which, despite what its name suggests, is a tablet that’s been available from other locations since October last year. We knew that this would eventually come to Verizon.

Verizon is offering the Note 10.1 2014 for $699.99 off contract, and for $599.99 to customers willing to sign a new 2-year contract agreement. Although it's not the newest tablet around, the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 remains a high-end offering. Its features include a 10.1-inch display with 2560 x 1600 pixels, S Pen Stylus, LTE connectivity, 8MP rear camera, 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, and a 8,220 mAh battery.
The Note 10.1 is the second Samsung-made tablet released by Verizon this year. Earlier this month, the carrier launched the newer, bigger and arguably better Samsung Galaxy Note Pro, which costs $749.99 on contract, or $849.99 outright. Yes, we know, these on contract prices are ridiculously high.

In related news, Verizon has cut the price of its Nexus 7 2013 from $249.99 on contract to just $49.99. As you may know, the carrier started selling the Nexus 7 with LTE last month.

Samsung Galaxy S5's IP67 certification gets questioned, holds water

Samsung Galaxy S5 reviews are coming fast and furious, bridging the gap between the phone's announcement two weeks ago, and the actual April 11th release date. The latest one again comes from Russia, and this time we get to see how the IP67 certification of the phone holds water, literally.
The reviewers go through the usual routine of musings over the design, interface, chipset performance, and camera sampling, but in the meantime they decide to do a little waterboarding exercise on the device, whose results you can briefly see in the video below. The overall conclusions are what one would expect from an oversaturated AMOLED display, and a fast Snapdragon 801 processor, but the video playback test is what caught our attention. The Galaxy S5 survived 10 hours of continuous 1080p video playback - a sixth shy of the 12 hours promised in the S5 presentation. The conditions of the test were at full screen brightness, though, and with Wi-Fi on, which means that Samsung's new flagship might ultimately crush the endurance benchmarks, in relation to its battery capacity.
We will just spoil the ending by saying that the IP67 certification is real, despite that Samsung humbly calls the phone "water-resistant". It not only survives splashes of water jetting on it from all sides, but can also be immersed fully in up to three feet of the liquid, and stay there for half an hour, just as its IP67 tag suggests.

New Samsung S Band activity tracker leaked

It looks like Samsung is getting ready to introduce another new wearable this year, besides the already announced Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit.

Called Samsung S Band, the alleged new device is an activity tracker. As you may know, Samsung announced an S Band last year as well, but that one didn’t make it to market.

The new S Band should be released as a fitness accessory for the Galaxy S5 and other Samsung smartphones. Unlike the Samsung Gear Fit (which is also used to track fitness activity), the S Band doesn’t seem to have a proper display, and this should make it considerably cheaper. We’re hearing that the Gear Fit will cost $200, so perhaps the S Band will be sold for no more than $100.

The S Band can monitor your daily activity (including calories and distance), and even your sleep quality. It connects to Samsung’s Activity Tracker App and S Health 3.0 on your handset, that's how it shows you the info it gathers.

It’s not clear if Samsung intends to release this new S Band in the near future. But since the new Galaxy S5 will go on sale on April 11, we’re probably going to hear more on this pretty soon. Until then, check out the S Band in the slideshow below.

New Samsung SM-G3858 seems to feature a built-in projector and metal back

We just came across an unannounced Samsung Android smartphone called SM-G3858. This was approved by China’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center recently, and it’s not particularly interesting when it comes to specs.
However, what caught our attention is that the handset appears to have a metal back - and we all know that Samsung smartphones with cases made out of metal are a rare sight.

What’s more, the SM-G3858 has an unusual bump on the upper side of its rear case. This resembles the bump that the Samsung Galaxy Beam has in order to house a built-in projector. So we can only assume that the SM-G3858 also comes with a built-in projector. Of course, we may be wrong.

In any case, what we know for sure is that the Samsung SM-G3858 runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and is made for China Mobile (it could also have versions for carriers outside of China). We mentioned that the handset’s specs aren’t that exciting, but that doesn’t mean we have to omit presenting them. So here they are: 4.66-inch display with 480 x 800 pixels, quad-core 1.2GHz processor (possibly a Snapdragon 200), 1GB of RAM, VGA front-facing camera, and a 5MP rear camera with LED flash.

For now, there is no word on when the Samsung SM-G3858 will be announced. We’ll keep an eye on this and provide more details when we get them.

Samsung SM-T805 (possibly a new Galaxy Tab Pro) receives its Bluetooth certification

Samsung SM-T805 is an unannounced tablet that was first mentioned last week. This model number is already confirmed by Samsung, and its UA profile seems to further confirm that the device runs Android 4.4 KitKat and sports a display with 1600 x 2560 pixels.

We discovered that the Bluetooth SIG approved the SM-T805 earlier today, which means that Samsung may be getting ready to officially announce it in the near future.

Unfortunately, that’s about all we know regarding the SM-T805. However, its model number and the fact that it has a high-res display suggest that it may be a new Galaxy Tab Pro model. We could also assume that the SM-T805 might be a new tablet with an AMOLED screen, since Samsung is seemingly prepared to mass-produce AMOLED panels for tablets. Whatever this turns out to be, we’ll let you know.

Bell says KitKat update coming by Monday to its Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Are you a Bell customer in Canada, toting a Samsung Galaxy Note 3? If so, we have some news that should put a smile on your face. A tweet from the Canadian carrier reveals that the Bell branded version of the Samsung phablet will be receiving the Android 4.4.2 update "by Monday." Bell didn't mention which Monday they were referring to, but we have a sneaking suspicion that the mobile operator means that the device will be updated by this coming Monday at the latest. Those Bell subscribers with the Samsung Galaxy S4 have just received the Android 4.4.2 update on Thursday.

Meanwhile, over at Bell's rival Rogers, the carrier has updated its website to show that its version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will receive its chocolatey update in late March. This is somewhat of a disappointment to Rogers' customers since an earlier road map from last month had this particular update listed as "coming soon."

If you are a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owner on Bell, keep your eyes peeled this weekend for the Android 4.4.2 update, coming OTA. Once you do receive it, let us know by dropping a comment in the box below.
