Motorola slashes price of the Moto E to Rs. 5,990, bundles Moto Deck Bluetooth speaker for free with the Moto XMotorola

Motorola has slashed the price of the Moto E by Rs. 1,000, reducing it to Rs. 5,999, to mark the one year anniversary of it’s partnership with Flipkart. The company is continuing with the buyback offers that were launched last month. Under this buyback scheme, customers can exchange their old smartphones for discounts of up to Rs. 4,000 and up to Rs. 6,000 on the Moto G (2nd. Gen) and Moto X (2nd. Gen) respectively.

Motorola recently celebrated 3 million devices sold on Flipkart, and to keep up with the festivities, Motorola has a host of offers for the Moto E, the Moto G, the Moto X, the Nexus 6 and the Moto 360. These offers are likely to last the entire week, till the 15th of February, 2015. All purchases of the Moto 360 along with the Nexus 6 get an extra Rs. 10,000 off.

Similar to the Moto G and Moto X, customers can get a discount of up to Rs. 10,000 in exchange for their old smartphones. Motorola is also offering a Moto Deck Bluetooth speaker worth Rs. 8,990 for free with the Moto X (2nd Gen).

Second Generation Moto E specs leaked

Motorola has been doing pretty well since its second innings began and the all its first generation devices but the Moto E have had their successors hit the launchpad. But the successor of the Moto E is already awaiting its launch and has had its specs leak on to the interweb recently.

As per the latest reports which are coming in from Greece, the successor of the Moto E is coming soon and it will bring in quite a decent upgrade over the first generation model. The second generation Moto E will come with a 4.5-inch screen with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. At the back will be a 5-Megapixel camera without flash like the current Moto E.

Under the hood will be a 1.2 GHz quad core CPU which will be either a Snapdragon 400 SoC or a Snapdragon 410 SoC. Joining it will be a 1GB RAM. It will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop in all likelihood right from the start. It will get LTE connectivity which is quite a good thing. Information about the pricing is unknown for the time being but the pricing is expected to be on the affordable side of things.

Recently, a Motorola device had showed up on benchmarking which had somewhat similar specs. So this might just be the next best affordable smartphone.

Motorola Moto E launched in India with an aggressive price of Rs 6,999

Motorola has finally launched the Moto E in India after the smartphone was leaked in all its glory a few days ago. The specs are similar to the ones that were rumoured and the smartphone will go on sale at midnight on Flipkart with a slew of offers. You’ll get 50 percent off on its covers and e-books worth Rs 1,000 if you purchase the device today. Flipkart will also offer you a 50 percent discount on an 8GB Transcend memory card if bought alongside the device. Here are the specifications of the device:

In our opinion, this is pretty much the best sub Rs 7,000 device and Motorola is all ready to replicate the success of the Moto G with Moto E.

Right after the Moto E was announced in India at an aggressive price of Rs 6,999, Motorola at its launch event in UK announced an upgraded version of the Moto G which makes it an all the more a value for money device. Motorola has given it the a complete white colour option, 4G LTE connectivity and added the much awaited microSD card slot to it. Yes, you read it correct!

It has been announced for GBP 149 which converts to around $219. The 8GB regular variant which costs $179 globally costs Rs 12,499 in India and the 16GB variant which costs $199 costs Rs 13,999 and judging by that, the 4G LTE variant should cost Rs 15,499. At that price, it would still be quite a good device for India. Even though the 4G roll out is still in its nascent stages, the device will make for a good one if brought to Indian shores.

Happy 2014, everyone! I arrive to you refreshed from the holiday break and rarin' to round up the best deals money (or, ideally, less money) can buy.

If Santa didn't bring you a new smartphone, don't fret: this year promises lots and lots of new models. Even better, you'll enjoy more no-contract options from big and small carriers alike. (Prediction: the dreaded two-year contract will disappear by the end of 2014. And good riddance!)

Don't want to wait? You don't have to. For a limited time, and while supplies last, HSN has the Motorola Moto G no-contract Android phone for $99.95 shipped. That's after redeeming a $30 mail-in rebate (PDF). The Moto G debuted just two months ago and continues to sell at most places for $179.95. So even without the rebate you're scoring a solid deal. With it: woo!

Interestingly, the Moto G first arrived in the U.S. as an unlocked GSM phone, meaning you could take it to AT&T, T-Mobile, or any carrier that tapped their networks. HSN's offer appears to mark the first availability of the CDMA version, which is why it's being offered via Sprint-powered Boost Mobile.

There are a few question marks here. For starters, nowhere does it say this is an unlocked Moto G, though I believe this phone is sold only that way. In theory, if you're not happy with Boost Mobile, you could take it to Sprint or even Verizon -- but, again, that's a guess on my part. I'm not intimately familiar with the intricacies of the CDMA world. (I do know it limits you to making calls from the U.S.)

I'm also seeing only one plan option from Boost Mobile: $55 monthly for unlimited calling, texting, and data, with a $5/month reduction every six months. (So eventually the rate drops to $50, then $45, and so on, down to as low as $40.) I thought Boost used to offer other plan options, but their site lists only the one. On the plus side, it's a no-contract plan, so again you may have the option of looking elsewhere.

As for the phone itself, it's a quad-core handset with a 4.5-inch HD screen, dual cameras, and Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). It's available in your choice of four colors, and it comes with extras including a case and car charger. The Moto G is widely regarded as a lower-end version of the mega-popular Moto X, and it's definitely more of an entry-level smartphone -- though if you went back in time a year or two, it might be considered a premium model.

I'll let CNET's review give you all the salient details, but the big catch I want to point out is storage: the Moto G has just 8GB of it, with no option for expansion (unless you go the USB-to-Go route).

Ultimately, there's a very good argument to be made for spending another $100-200 for a more powerful, expandable phone. That said, if your budget is limited and you want a robust Android experience without a two-year contract, this is definitely worth a look.
