Nokia Lumia 1320 lands in China first

Large-phone lovers on a budget, rejoice: Nokia's 6-inch, $339 Lumia 1320 smartphone is now available in China. That's a bit earlier than the January 2014 time-frame it first promised, and the Finnish company said it'll also roll out in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and other countries (likely in Europe) in the coming weeks. It packs a whopping 3,400mAh battery for the long-winded, but otherwise has middling specs: a 720p screen, dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage and a 5-megapixel camera. Unfortunately, there's no word of an arrival date for those in the US torn between a tablet and phone -- but given the LTE bands we saw at the FCC, don't hold your breath.

China's Jade Rabbit rover lands on the Moon (Update: pictures)

China has just entered a very exclusive club -- it's now the third country to have soft-landed vehicles on the Moon. Its Chang'e 3 lander and accompanying Jade Rabbit rover successfully reached our celestial neighbor's Bay of Rainbows on Saturday. Jade Rabbit will now spend months studying the lunar surface, while its host will watch Earth and other objects in space. The mission should provide fresh scientific data to both China and other space agencies, but it's most useful in the short term as a revival of exploration efforts. There hasn't been a soft landing on the Moon since 1976 -- China is kicking off a new phase of lunar science that will hopefully lead to a long-term human presence.

Update: After only a day of puttering around its lunar landing site, the Jade Rabbit rover has already reportedly sent over 4600 images back to earth, although most of them haven't been released to the public. Care for a peek? We've posted one after the break.

NASA's Morpheus lander skips the inferno, actually lands (video)

The last time NASA's methane-fueled Morpheus lander took to the skies without training wheels (read: a tether), it didn't go too well. Unless crashing and burning was the plan all along, that is. The Morpheus team have been beavering away since that incident over a year ago, and in a recent test at the Kennedy Space Center, have shown the craft is, in fact, capable of landing. While the video proof doesn't feature much drama and spectacle as a result, we guess it means Morpheus can at least begin setting its sights on locations slightly more exotic than a Florida car park.
