HTC announces the new One with depth-sensing camera and larger screen

The "all new" HTC One has been one of the worst kept secrets of 2014, but today it's a secret no more. The Taiwanese manufacturer has taken the wraps off its latest flagship and fans of last years model (count us among them) won't be disappointed. The phone boasts the same aluminum unibody construction as last year's model, but with more pronounced curves and even more metal this time around. A full 90 percent of the body is made of aluminum, quite a bit more than the 70 percent on last year's. That means it's about half and ounce heavier, but it seems like a small trade off given the incredible design and spacious 5-inch screen. That panel is still a 1080p S-LCD3 one, which means you can count on the same bright colors and deep blacks. Plus the whole front is protected by a sheet of Gorilla Glass 3. Oh, and before we go any further -- the pair of capacitive buttons have been replaced with the standard trio of Android soft keys! (Phewww...)

Tesla Announces Ambitious European Expansion Plans

Ahead of the Geneva Auto Show, Tesla has announced plans to significantly expand its footprint in Europe. And for good reason. According to the news release announcing 30 new European service centers and stores, Telsa notes that it expects the combined sales in Europe and Asia to be twice as high as sales in North America.

The proposed expansion comes after a recent trip to Europe by Elon Musk who stated at the time Europe will soon be covered in Superchargers. “By the end of this year, we expect you will be able to travel almost anywhere in Europe using only Superchargers,” Musk said.

There are currently 14 Superchargers on the continent, mostly covering Norway and Central Europe.

The company states that it’s dialing up its commitment to Europe. It represents a “priority market” for Tesla, which will soon introduce a right hand drive Model S for the UK.

The 30 new service stations and stores would more than double the budding car company’s presence in Europe. As Tesla is facing significant roadblocks setting up shop in several states in the U.S., the company is charging forward in other markets hungry for its electric vehicles.

Alienware announces Valve partnership, Steam Machines

0Alienware will beam a Steam Machine down to Earth in late 2014, the Dell subsidiary announced today. No spec details or price was given, but the Alienware Steam Machine will, according to a statement by Gabe Newell given in a press release, encapsulate "the full potential of what a Steam Machine should be." If by "full potential" Newell means that it looks pretty, well, we can't argue there. Sleek!

"We have been working with Alienware since we began defining our vision of the Steam Machine," Newell said. "Alienware's historic commitment to gaming, their design and engineering capabilities and their global reach made them an ideal partner for us on our Steam Machine project."

Nikon announces new FX-format 35mm prime lens

Nikon has added one more f/1.8 prime lens to it FX full frame format lineup with the AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G ED lens.

The new lens adds Nikon's ED - or Extra-Low Dispersion - glass element, which should make for a more versatile low light prime at the popular 35mm focal length for FX-format camera users, helped by the fast f/1.8 maximum aperature speed.

Completing the family of FX-format f/1.8 prime lenses, the 35mm lens joins 28mm, 50mm and 85mm variants.

It's also compatible with Nikon's APS-C DX line - just make sure your don't confuse the AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G ED with the existing AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F1.8G, which only works on DX-format cameras.

The completed family

If you've used any of the other f/1.8 FX-format primes, the small AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G ED addition is built very similarly and at 305g, is very portable.

Along with the ED element, it also touts aspherical lens elements and a silent wave motor (SWM) for auto focusing, with a large manual focus ring in front.

The AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G ED will be available from February 20 for $599.95 (about £365.87, AU$672.06).

Qualcomm announces Steve Mollenkopf as its next CEO

Steve Mollenkopf, the current COO of Qualcomm will be the company's next CEO. The announcement comes a day after reports suggesting that Microsoft might be considering Mollenkopf as the potential successor to Steve Ballmer, who will be hanging his boots and vacating the CEO position at the Redmond giant.

Steve Mollenkopf will fill in for Paul Jacobs, the current CEO and the son of Irwin Jacobs, the founder of Qualcomm. Paul will however, remain as an executive chairman of the Qualcomm.

Steve Mollenkopf has been a part of Qualcomm since 1994 and is an integral part of the management team for almost two decades. In the recent past, he has also led the wireless chipset business unit of Qualcomm, which is known as QCT.

Steve Mollenkopf will take charge as the CEO of Qualcomm effective from March 4, 2014.

Lenovo announces S930 and S650 droids

In September, Lenovo announced the flagship Vibe X and now the Chinese company is adding two more smartphones to its 2013 line-up: the Lenovo S930 and the Lenovo S650.

The Lenovo S930 is an affordable mid-range 6-incher coming to rival the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. Its display boasts 720p resolution resulting in the okay pixel density of 245 ppi. At the back, there's an 8MP camera sans a flash, while the 1.6MP snapper is located above the display.

Inside the Lenovo S930 ticks a MediaTek 6852 chip with a 1.3GHz quad-core CPU with a Mali-400MP and 1GB of RAM. Internal memory is just 8GB, but it's expandable thanks to the onboard memory card slot. The phablet measures 170 x 86. x8.65 mm which is decent, considering the screen size. It weighs 170 grams with the 3,000mAh battery included.

The Lenovo S650 is the more compact new addition with a 4.7" qHD display that has almost the same pixel density as the S930 - 234 ppi. It packs the same internals as its bigger brother too - a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU on a MediaTek chipset. Internal memory is also 8GB with a microSD card slot on board.

It's also as thin measuring 138x69.8x8.7 mm and pleasantly light at 126 grams. Inside it, there's a 2,000mAh battery. Additionally, the phone will be available in a dual-SIM slot version, too.

Both devices will be available by the end of the month with the Lenovo S650 costing $366 and the Lenovo S930 will carry a price tag of $427.
