Android version of WhatsApp lets hackers read your messages

Those using the Android version of WhatsApp might feel a bit violated. A flaw in the way that conversations are stored and encrypted allows hackers to use another app to read your messages. This flaw was discovered by Bas Bosschert, security expert and CTO at DoubleThink, and is still there despite an update on Tuesday to version 2.11.186.

WhatsApp keeps your conversations stored on a microSD card. If you have allowed other apps to access your microSD card, past conversations can be accessed. This is not just a problem with WhatsApp, but is something that afflicts other Android apps as well. And despite WhatsApp's encryption process, a savvy hacker can still crack the code.

While WhatsApp uses the microSD slot to capture conversations, it doesn't have to save them in this manner. If WhatsApp can change the way it stores conversations, they could be made more secure. Until then, it is just another security issue to worry about.

Google Hangouts 2.0 for iOS redesigned with iPad tweaks, 10-second video messages

Google Hangouts just jumped a full version number on Apple hardware -- the first major update since it added voice calls late last year -- and 2.0 has more than just a new iOS 7-ready look. The new app is "fully optimized" for iPads, with a "two-pane" conversation view. On all devices, it's ready for animated stickers -- look out Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger -- 10-second video messages for when your friends are offline, and can send a map of your current location with a few button presses. It's rolling out on the App Store now, assuming you prefer the matchup of Google services and Apple devices.

Google Redesigns Hangouts For iOS, Adds Video Messages And Animated Stickers

Hangouts for iOS app. This new version is the first to be fully optimized for iOS 7, with a new loading screen and menus, cleaner look, different typography and a couple of new features, too.

You can now, for example, attach a map with your current location to your conversation, something that’s been available in the Android version for a while. The new version also features about three dozen animated stickers. None of them, however, look especially interesting. In addition, the app now also lets you record and send video messages of up to 10 seconds long.

The new version is also fully optimized for the iPad, Google says, and now includes picture-in-picture video calling on Apple’s tablets.

It’s no secret that Hangouts is now one of the more important products in Google’s portfolio. While it grew out of the Google

Microsoft today announced it has started integrating email functionality into Yammer. Over the past quarter, the company has developed two features: the ability to loop in non-Yammer users and the option to forward emails into Yammer.

The former means you can now add someone to a Yammer conversation, even if they’re not a Yammer user. Anyone in your organization can be added to a Yammer discussion by typing their email address into the CC bar of any message:
