Watch Arnold Schwarzenegger Crush Things With A Tank… For Charity

If you’ve ever wanted to see Arnold Schwarzenegger crush a 5-foot roll of bubble wrap with his own personal tank (and really, who hasn’t?), congratulations! Today is your lucky day.

Just a few years ago, the folks behind Omaze set out on a rather commendable quest: to raise money for charity, they’d sell what were essentially raffle tickets for myriad “once-in-a-lifetime opportunities” — from hanging out with a celebrity for a day, to visiting SpaceX HQ.

I doubt, at the time, that they thought “Hey — maybe one day we’ll get Arnold Schwarzenegger to roll around in his tank and crush taxis, gigantic easter eggs, birthday cakes, and massive rolls of bubblewrap. FOR CHARITY.”

But he’s doing just that. Here’s the video:

The Omaze contest is up for another two days. If you win, you get to roll around with Arnie himself, smashing stuff in his tank, smoking cigars, and probably making random Arnold Schwarzenegger movie references that you’ll immediately feel awkward for making. And if you don’t win? Don’t feel too bad: most of the money is going to After-School All-Stars, which helps to fund after-school fitness programs for kids.

(Fun fact: The idea for this came from a redditor. Arnold is actually something of a regular around those parts; he’s done a few AMAs, and pops up now and again to drop knowledge bombs on the bodybuilding subreddits.)

The Chaotic Unmanned Personal Intercept Drone, or "stun copter," can deliver 80,000 volts of pure projectile terror directly into the skin of an ill-intentioned hoodlum. This is serious business for Chaotic Moon, the folks behind SharkPunch and the Pizza Hut touch table. The Austin-based design studio created the flying machine as a tech demo, but CUPID could be quickly brought to production whenever a personal security or law enforcement client sees fit. This prototype unit is based on a Tarot Hexacopter, originally designed to carry a digital SLR for video and aerial photo shoots. Watch The Y Combinator Female Founders Conference Live

If you are not at the Female Founders Conference at the Computer History Museum this afternoon, you are either a guy, out-of-town or one of the many that got turned away from the oversubscribed event.  

This is the first purposefully gender-specific Y Combinator conference and probably the first time the Computer History Museum has seen such a critical mass of women within its walls. The conference is seriously almost all women with an estimated 450 females in attendance.

The schedule has already kicked off and Y Combinator founder Jessica Livingston and Homejoy founder Adora Cheung have already taken the stage, imparting such apropos insights as “If you’re not the technical founder, then your job is everything that’s not technical” and ”It’s best if you’re a user of the solution your startup offers. That way you can have a conversation with your users just by thinking.”

But there are many other female role models (Livingston holds that 2014 is the “tipping point” for women entrepreneurs) who have yet to take the stage, and you can watch them here. Video and schedule below.

The Bathys Atomic Watch Is Heading Towards A Crowdfunded Future

Bathys, a boutique watchmaker based on Kauai, Hawaii and run by one determined man, first announced their wild Cesium 133 atomic watch in October. Now, a few months later, the company is nearly ready to hit the shoals of crowdfunding.

The company made a name for itself by building sturdy dive watches for the surfer set. We haven’t heard much from them, however, until recently when they announced plans to make a watch that will remain accurate until your children’s children jet off in their moon cars to Juno. It uses a Symmetricom SA.45s CSAC atomic clock on a chip to power a standard quartz face salvaged from an older Bathys model.

Created by John Patterson, the watch is still a work in progress but there is some talk of crowdfunding the product once it is ready for prime time. At this point ABlogToWatch estimates that the piece will cost $8,000 or so when complete with discounts offered to early adopters.

Obviously this thing is comically large and obviously battery life is an issue but this is the first standalone device that will be more accurate than some GPS units. Because it doesn’t depend on a satellite sync it will be accurate all the time and even far into the future. While you’re not going to wear this on your next surfing safari I don’t see why you couldn’t wear it stargazing or, barring that, while manning the tubes at the Large Hadron Collider.
