Sony teases 'slimmest' PlayStation device coming to the UK on January 30th

We've had a lucky run with product teasers recently. Instead of being totally vague, they've deliberately given us some inkling of what to expect, and we're hoping that the Sony flyer above -- summoning us to a PlayStation event in London -- does so too. We're told the briefing will introduce UK journalists to the "slimmest" PlayStation device, but we're not told that we're definitely going to witness the launch of a whole new product, which -- to our minds, at least -- suggests we might be looking at the UK launch of the PlayStation Vita TV. At just 13.6mm thick, the Vita TV is the thinnest PS device that we know of and it's currently only available in Japan, so a launch in the UK (or anywhere outside of Asia) could potentially be a big deal. We're gonna go ahead and rule out a super slim PlayStation 4 already, but the other plausible alternative is that the flyer is technically wrong, and that this is the UK launch of the slimmer version of the PlayStation Vita handheld -- in other words, the 2013 Japanese model, which has an LCD screen instead of OLED, better battery life and which is just 15mm thick (20 percent skinnier than the current UK model). In any case, we'll be there at the event on January 30th, with a flask of coffee and a pair of calipers.

Fujifilm teases a new X-mount camera with full manual dials and possible weather sealing

Fujilfilm's current range of X-mount cameras have hardly struggled to attract a following, but there's always room for a fresh addition, especially if it brings quicker manual controls. Judging from the official teaser image above, we should expect just such a camera to arrive on January 28th, with a nice big ISO dial to complement the shutter and exposure compensation dials already found on the X-Pro1. If we're happy to indulge in a bit of gossip, courtesy of MirrorlessRumors, then it's also possible that the coming model will add something else the X-Pro1 was missing: a weather-sealed body. If that turns out to be true, then the Nikon Df could have some competition on its hands -- not over raw specs perhaps (because it somehow feels unlikely that Fujifilm has suddenly come up with a full-frame X-TRANS sensor that could match the Df's), but at least over size, weight and price.

Nikon has revealed that it will be showcasing the D4S, an upgrade to its most advanced DSLR, at the CES show, before an official announcement is made.

For the moment, specifications are thin on the ground, but professional photographers are likely to be excited at the prospect of the new camera, which comes two years after the D4 was announced.

Nikon has form here, announcing the D3S roughly two years after the D3.

Big events

It makes sense that Nikon would be keen to let pros know that a new camera was on the way ahead of the Winter Olympics, World Cup and Commonwealth Games, all of which are taking place this year.

The D4 features a relatively low resolution, at 16 million pixels, so it will be interesting to see what number Nikon plumps for in its new flagship model.

EE teases the LG G Flex's 2014 launch with in-store displays across the UK

Taking a page from the "you always want what you can't have" playbook, UK carrier EE will be showcasing LG's G Flex smartphone in some of its stores starting this Friday, December 20th. Don't expect to walk out with the curved handset; EE's just teasing the flexible device ahead of its European launch in early 2014. Curious Brits in London, Manchester and several other cities can get some hands-on time with the G Flex, which sports a 6-inch, flexible display with a "self-healing finish."
