Bell says KitKat update coming by Monday to its Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Meanwhile, over at Bell's rival Rogers, the carrier has updated its website to show that its version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will receive its chocolatey update in late March. This is somewhat of a disappointment to Rogers' customers since an earlier road map from last month had this particular update listed as "coming soon."
If you are a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owner on Bell, keep your eyes peeled this weekend for the Android 4.4.2 update, coming OTA. Once you do receive it, let us know by dropping a comment in the box below.

Chrome's hands-free voice search is coming to everyone, no add-on required
If you've wanted hands-free Google voice search (à la Android's Now Launcher) on the desktop, you've so far had to install a Chrome extension. No more -- the company has released a Chrome beta that builds the feature into the browser. Any time you visit the Google homepage or open a new tab, you can say "OK Google" to ask a question or perform a command, such as scheduling a reminder. Testers running Chrome in US English should see the feature go live sometime within the next few days, and a matching Chrome OS update is coming soon. Don't worry if you'd rather not be an early adopter. Google typically releases finished versions of the software several weeks after the beta, so touchless voice search should be available to every Chrome user before long.

Sony teases 'slimmest' PlayStation device coming to the UK on January 30th
We've had a lucky run with product teasers recently. Instead of being totally vague, they've deliberately given us some inkling of what to expect, and we're hoping that the Sony flyer above -- summoning us to a PlayStation event in London -- does so too. We're told the briefing will introduce UK journalists to the "slimmest" PlayStation device, but we're not told that we're definitely going to witness the launch of a whole new product, which -- to our minds, at least -- suggests we might be looking at the UK launch of the PlayStation Vita TV. At just 13.6mm thick, the Vita TV is the thinnest PS device that we know of and it's currently only available in Japan, so a launch in the UK (or anywhere outside of Asia) could potentially be a big deal. We're gonna go ahead and rule out a super slim PlayStation 4 already, but the other plausible alternative is that the flyer is technically wrong, and that this is the UK launch of the slimmer version of the PlayStation Vita handheld -- in other words, the 2013 Japanese model, which has an LCD screen instead of OLED, better battery life and which is just 15mm thick (20 percent skinnier than the current UK model). In any case, we'll be there at the event on January 30th, with a flask of coffee and a pair of calipers.

Zynga Drops 12% In Regular Trading On External Warnings About Its Coming Earnings
Social gaming firm Zynga today plunged 12 percent in regular trading, following a warning by Sterne Agee’s Arvind Bhatia, which indicated that the market’s fourth-quarter consensus may be too optimistic. Shares fell by 49 cents to end the day at $3.54.
Also today, UBS lowered its rating on Zynga’s stock from hold to sell, indicating deteriorating confidence in the company’s business fundamentals. Summing simply: Zynga got wrecked today as outside investors threw shade all over it.
Zynga has had a textbook rough time as a public technology company, with an IPO followed by a dramatic rise in its value, followed by a precipitous decline, and now years in the doldrums.
According to BusinessWeek’s summation, investors expect Zynga to lose 4 cents per share on revenue of $183 million in the fourth quarter. If those projections are too strong, you begin to wonder what upside the company may have. A quick look at past earnings, and the loss expected, is on the back of decreased year-over-year revenues.
In the fourth quarter of 2012, Zynga had revenue of $331 million.
Zynga has not been quiet. The company has a new CEO and changed its leadership structure in late 2013 to respond to its deteriorating condition. Still, it isn’t idle speculation to ask if those changes were less than what was required, and perhaps already over the event horizon.
The decline puts Zynga in an ironic position to excel: If it manages to merely meet the market’s consensus when it reports earnings, it could enjoy a firm bounce.

The LG G Flex is certainly an attention-grabbing device but US users couldnt get it until now. LG has partnered with three US carriers to bring the unique phablet to a new market.
The three carriers are AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint and they'll be releasing the G Flex some time in Q1. The Vice President of Sprint, David Owens, came on stage to share that he's been using the phablet recently and said it drew tons of attention.
Unfortunately, Owens forgot to mention the price of the LG G Flex, saying only that it will support Sprint's LTE Network, Spark, offering no more details about the launch.
Now we're waiting for the three carriers to announce the pre-order. For now, you can just sign up to be notified for updates.
The rest of LG's event focused on TVs and home appliances, you can watch a replay of the event here.

LG's 105-inch UHDTV isn't coming to CES alone: flat 65-, 79-, 84- and 98-inchers on the way
Possibly concerned that merely showing off a giant 105-inch curved, ultrawidescreen (with a resolution of 5,120 x 2,160 it's being marketed as 5K) Ultra HD television wasn't enough, LG just announced a few more super high-res displays it's bringing this week. Alongside the 105UC9, the UB9800 4K Ultra HD series includes flat LCD televisions in 65-, 79-, 84- and 98-inch sizes. Other than their 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, the calling card of this line is its "Tru-ULTRA HD Engine Pro" chip that handles any upscaling from SD, HD, or "True HD" (1080p) sources, and has "4K Motion Estimation Motion Compensation (MEMC)" for 4K source content.
The 105-inch Curved Ultra HD TV also sports one other unique feature, that massive speaker along the bottom is something LG calls the "Ultra Surround" concept. It contains 7.2-channel forward facing speakers designed with Harmon Kardon. LG says its new TVs can play Ultra HD content from almost any source thanks to HDMI 2.0, USB and LAN inputs, plus support for h.264 and the new HEVC format. Not enough new displays for you? LG will also have new Ultra HD OLEDs, and just for giggles, probably a few more affordable options at its press conference Monday and CES booth later this week.

LG makes Knock a standard feature, update coming for L Series II models
LG first rolled out its Knock feature on the G2 earlier this year, but now that item will become a standard feature on future handsets. If you'll recall, the power button on that smartphone is situated around back, so Knock allows users to turn the unit on by double tapping on the screen. In addition to those upcoming devices, the outfit will add Knock to existing L Series II gadgets via a maintenance release update starting next month. Of course, specific availability will depend on region and carrier, so you might have to wait a bit longer for the add-on.

Facebook confirms autoplay video ads are coming to your News Feed
They've been a long time coming, but Facebook's new video ads are finally here. Confirming an earlier report from the Wall Street Journal that said they'd launch this week, the company said it will start rolling out promoted videos to a limited number of users' News Feeds, kicking off with mini trailers for the new film Divergent. Leaning on a model utilized by Instagram, Facebook's video ads will automatically play when they appear onscreen -- although sound will be muted on both the desktop and mobile, unless you deliberately click on the video. While you won't be able prevent the new ad units from popping up, they can be avoided with some quick scrolling, just like you did with Facebook's other sponsored content.

CES, one of the biggest consumer electronics venues of the year in the US, kicks off on January 7. It seems that ASUS has been chomping at the bit to get 2014 started, as it's unleashed invites to its CES press event a day before the Consumer Electronics Show officially kicks-off.
The event headline reads "In Search Of Incredible" alongside a blurry background and some notes attached. The invite itself isn't too revealing even though that thing at the center of it might loosely resemble a Transformer, PadFone or something else entirely.
It's not uncommon for manufacturers to hold press events prior to actual trade shows, but this one is such a good deal in advance that we have no idea what to expect.
We can only hypothesize what ASUS will showcase, but from a company so in love with out-of-the-box thinking, it could range anywhere from a new Transformer Android or Windows device, to a new PadFone. Hopefully we'll have a clearer picture as next month rolls near.

ASUS CEO: The PadFone is coming to America in Q2 2014
